This fall, SaddleCreek Stables and Vineyard will transform into a slice of Sicily as ten guests gather for a four-course dinner that will celebrate tradition, family, and the enduring influence of the godfather room. The evening will be a tribute to Kansas City History—infused with Sicilian flavors, heartfelt stories, and the warmth of shared table.
Aperitivo: A Toast Beneath the Vines
Guests will be greeted with glasses of one of our selected wines. Small bites of marinated olives, caprese salad and homemade bread will circulate as introductions are made and laughter begins to fill the air.
Primo: A Garden’s Tribute
The first course will feature an insalata di arance e finocchio—a refreshing Sicilian salad of shaved fennel, blood orange segments, red onion, and mint, dressed with olive oil and sea salt. Light yet vibrant, it will awaken the palate and reflect the island’s sun-soaked produce. As guests enjoy the dish, I will share stories of my godfather’s love for simplicity and balance, both in food and in life.
Secondo: Sunday Sauce, Sicilian Style
For the main course, guests will be served a generous helping of pasta with slow-simmered tomato sauce, accompanied by tender meatballs, sweet Italian sausage, and rich, flavorful neckbones. This dish will be the heart of the evening—a nod to the kind of Sunday dinners my godfather grew up with, where the sauce bubbled for hours and the table was always full. It will be served family-style, encouraging conversation, laughter, and second helpings. This will be served with one of our full bodied red wines.
Dolce: Ricotta Cannoli
For dessert, guests will be treated to classic Sicilian cannoli—crispy, golden pastry shells filled with sweetened ricotta cream, delicately flavored with orange zest. Each cannoli will be piped fresh just before serving to preserve its signature crunch. A dusting of powdered sugar and a drizzle of dark chocolate will finish the plate, alongside a shot of espresso or a splash of dessert wine.
